Maternity leave – day 6

Weekend recap:

  • Two new important discoveries happened over this weekend and both are gelato-related.  First, maple scrock may be the best flavour ever.  I don’t know what scrock is, but here’s what I know… it’s awesome.  So awesome, I had it twice.  It tastes like a Toffifee candy… but not quite as sweet.  Mmmm.  Thank you, Pure Gelato.  Second, peanut butter and jam flavour gelato is delicious.  It’s not quite scrock, but it’s pretty darn good.
  • Visited Robyn’s new kittens and got to imagine what Orville would have been like as a kitten.   Answer: totally adorable.
  • Devoured scones at Hava Java.
  • Tried the new Umi Cafe on Somerset and the Lydia vegan ‘orange chocolate chip’ cookie  (which sadly, didn’t have a lot of orange flavour and I’m pretty sure it only had ONE chocolate chip.   Maybe I just had a freak cookie, but skimping on the chocolate is not a good way to win over a pregnant lady. ) It’s nice to have a Bridgehead alternative in the ‘hood.
  • Had a nice grown-up meal at Kafe Oz… because it may be a while before we get back.  It’s still one of the best dinner spots in town.
  • Made significant progress on some knitted mittens
  • Took too many cat photos
  • Had a coffee for the first time in like … 10 months??  Needed to kick up my blood pressure a bit because  I am too zen.  Didn’t really enjoy it, but it did the job.

Wow, most of those bullet points were food related.   Some things don’t change.

Umi Cafe is on our must-do-soon list but that cookie sounds awfully uninspired. There’s another new place opening up on Cambridge and Somerset (Raw Sugar Cafe). Not sure about their similarity to Bridgehead (ie. fair trade) though.

What does it feel like to have ELEVEN days left? Whoa. That’s, like, really super soon.

There were some better (and bigger) cookies on the counter at Umi, but I didn’t see them until I had already ordered. It’s hard to beat the cookie selection from the Herb & Spice though… it’s still my go-to cookie snack on-the-go joint.

I’ll keep my eye open for the opening of Raw Sugar… sounds promising?

11 days feels like for.ever. right now.
