I’m taking a little break from the Internet – I’ll update if there is any news.  So far.. no news.

Overdue…day 2

Plans for today:

  • Walk to bookshop on Elgin for another book
  • Stop at yarn store and make cutlery cozies
  • Stop at Hartmans and buy a big bag of flour and lug it home… or if all else fails, build sod house.  (It worked in that Heritage Minute)

At the bagel shop

Sorry folks.  The daily stats are as follows:

BLT: 1
Baby: 0

As for the “unbirthday” yesterday, we ended up having a nice day.  Bought a couple of foodie magazines, enjoyed a nice latte, made my favourite gazpacho for dinner, finished reading “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle” and rounded out the evening with So You Think You Can Dance.

D day

It’s D-day here, but it seems like this baby is determined to be late.  I knew eating that yummy apple / strawberry pie yesterday would not convince the Peanut that it’s time to vacate.   Should have put hot sauce in the pie.

Bah.

Plan for today:  buy tart pan to make pie a la Robyn and get fruit from the market.

Afternoon update:

  • Vacuumed / Swiffered
  • Took a bumpy ride on OC Transpo to the Byward Market
  • Stopped at the meat shop
  • Bought berries and veggies for supper
  • Made apple / strawberry pie
  • Made bread in the breadmachine
  • Snoozed
  • Got bored
  • Did not have baby

B is for baby and boredom

With mittens knitted, make-up kit restocked, hair cut and apartment tidied, I am officially bored.  And last night’s ‘operation spicy food’ did nothing… in fact, I had a fantastic sleep.  Ugh.

Maybe it’s time to take a little stroll to the bookstore

Afternoon update:

Boredom leads to shopping

With my mitten project complete, I’m at a bit of a loss for things to do today.  And there’s only so much tidying the house that I can stand.

Yesterday’s activities:

  • Finished knitting mittens
  • Made plum crisp
  • Baked more bread
  • Cleaned apartment
  • Laundry
  • Watched America’s Next Top Model

As for today – I’m considering a field trip to the Clinique counter to pass some time before my hair cut later this afternoon.  Getting bored can really give your credit card a workout.

Waiting for Sunday

Sunday the 14th is my official due date…  until then, here’s what I’ve noticed is unavoidable in the last week of pregnancy:

  • It is impossible not to get muffin batter on the bump when cooking.  Things just land there.
  • The waddle.  I try not to waddle in public, but at home it’s all about the penguin dance.
  • Dropping things.  This is annoying because bending over to pick up the item is awkward to say the least.
  • Staring.  I am a whale, thank you for gawking.  Seriously, I’m not going out on Bank Street any more.

Week 39

We were up bright and early to shop at the farmers market yesterday.  Surely the lure of fresh veggies and fruit would coax this baby to make an appearance.  So far, that plan is not working.

Robyn sent me this link to new corn syrup ads that are running in the US.  It totally skeeves me out that they need to run these ads…  the stuff must be pretty bad.   I don’t want my baby to be a corn cob.  Also – who puts corn syrup in Kool Aid?  yuck.

One week to go

Everything is food-related these days.  I decided to replace my old faux-Pyrex blue glass casserole dish that I bought back in my student days (possibly a Big Buds special) and replace it with something a little more grown up.  Something that would actually make the food look good coming out of the oven and not eerily blue.  (See full food-fug photo here.)

I am planning on making this gnocchi recipe tonight in it.  Mmm.

I popped over to Elgin St. to the home store and also to run some errands.  I ended up with this “homestead” casserole dish.   I’m not sure when bus tours decided to start making the home store on Elgin a tourist destination, but the place was packed.  Weird.

On the to-do list for today:

  • go to the farmers market
  • snooze
  • read food magazines with Orville
  • cook
  • snooze
  • pat the cat
