Green challenge
Kim from at home with Kim Vallee has sent out a green challenge. Here are a few things that I try to keep “green”.
- Reusable grocery bags. Note: not just for groceries! Though, Banana Republic does get their nose a little bent out of shape when you say you don’t need one of their bags. Or maybe it’s because I use the free bag that Lululemon was giving out in the summer.
- Walk / bike to work. I don’t own a car. I am not fond of the bus. I’m not a bus snob - but for most destinations, riding my bike is much quicker. Except in the winter, then it’s ‘yay bus’.
- Local groceries. We’ve been a lot better about eating locally since signing up for organic vegetable delivery. Now at the grocery store, I check the labels to see where the produce is from. If there is a local alternative, (or at least one from Canada) I’ll choose it. I also try to avoid too many fancy tropical fruits.. but I will not give up avocados! No way.
- Over in the Paper Skirt studio, I reuse all scrap paper before it goes in the recycling bin. I always need scrap paper when I’m gluing books together. I hardly ever throw out decorative paper. There’s always a way to use it - like these scraps that I made into belly bands for my set of recipe cards.
- Soaps. I’m currently trying to find a good laundry detergent with less chemicals. I recently tried the new Method lavender dish soap and it’s sooo nice. Bottle looks great and it smells summery. Will have to try their laundry detergent as well.

The Lululemon bag is so practical. They reduce your purchase by 50 cents if you have your own bag. That is the most I ever seen from a retailer.
I never used method soap but it seems that everyone that tried out method felt in love with it. And lavender is my favorite aroma.

For your laundry, you might want to check out sapindus, natural nuts that you throw in the wash. First heard about them here http://www.banlieusardises.com/loisirs/archives/001528.html. If you can manage a little french, you might like that website. More info on:
